New Phd Graduate from VMC Lab
June 2020.
Kalliopi-Evangelia Stavroulia successfully completed her Ph.D. in the use of VR in education and particularly for teacher training purposes. The research used an innovative Virtual Reality (VR) based framework in teacher practical training methodology, offering a new paradigm in teacher education. The development of the VR tool followed a multiphase research design consisting of five phases, while the target audience was actively involved during the entire research process providing significant feedback to the researcher that resulted in the development of a high-quality VR training tool that meets real teachers’ needs and challenges and has a strong added value. The research outcomes indicated the potential of using VR in teacher training and revealed a strong impact of the VR intervention on participants’ emotions and empathy skills. During her Ph.D. studies, Kalliopi received Graduate Student Paper Award in the International Conference on Information Communication Technologies in Education (ICICTE 2018) and her paper was Finalist paper at SPLASH 2019 Student Research Competition. In total, from this research there are 11 conference publications, 3 journal papers and 1 book chapter.
