Recent evidence portrays that today’s urban environments are getting increasingly dangerous for pedestrians. Contemporary cities have been fragmented by a growing number of technical barriers and damages that generate a variety of problems of different nature setting citizens at risk. Guaranteeing everyday urban safety has always been a central theme for local authorities, addressing remarkable human, social, and economic aspects. This project aims to develop innovative methods and techniques for sustainability and safety of citizens communities, utilizing data from wearable cameras for automatic barriers detection and damages that pose security issues to pedestrians. Citizens can play the role of knowledge carriers during their daily activities to improve pedestrian safety and access to urban sidewalks.
