The coordinator of the Visual Media Computing Lab (Andreas Lanitis) participated as a member of the jury for the 14th European Biometrics Max Snijder, Research, and Industry Awards of the European Association of Biometrics (EAB) (https://eab.org/). These prestigious awards are granted annually to individuals who have been judged by a panel of internationally respected experts to be making a significant contribution to the field of biometrics research and innovations in Europe.
The winner of the EAB Max Snijder Award was Andreas Nautsch, who conducted his PhD project at Hochschule Darmstadt/TechnicalUniversity of Darmstadt (Germany), and presented the topic of Security & Privacy in Voice Biometrics and Beyond.
The winner of the European Biometrics Industry Award was Philipp Terhörst from Fraunhofer IGD, (Germany) for his work Mitigating Soft-Biometric driven Bias and Privacy Concerns in Face Recognition Systems
The winner of the European Biometrics Research Award 2020 was granted to Gabriel Emile Hine from Roma Tre University (Italy) for his PhD-thesis A Zero-leakage and indistinguishable Auxiliary data representation for Biometric Cryptosystems.

The call for the fifteenth European Biometrics Max Snijder, Research, and Industry Awards 2021 is available here (https://eab.org/award/cfp.html). Academic researchers enrolled in the last or penultimate year of a Ph.D. program or who have obtained a Ph.D., with major focus on biometrics, from a European academic institution no later than two years before the given deadline, are encouraged to apply for the award.
